AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 66:24 "Then they will go forth and look Upon the dead bodies of the [rebellious] men Who have transgressed against Me; For their worm (maggot) will not die, And their fire will not go out; And they will be an abhorrence to all mankind." |
Bible Question: WHAT DOES THIS VERSE MEAN? I HAD A PREACHER TELL ME IT SAYS WE WILL CATCH GLIMPSES OF THOSE IN HELL WHEN WE'RE IN HEAVEN |
Bible Answer: Greetings Victorious One! Here's a little commentary on Isaiah 66:24, which I believe is speaking about the eternal punishment of the wicked. "66:24 worm does not die...fire is not quenched. The corpses of those enduring everlasting torment will serve as a vivid reminder to all of the grievous nature and terrible consequences of rebellion against God. In referring to this verse, Jesus referred to the Valley of Hinnom- i.e., Gehenna- where a continually burning trash-heap pictured the never-ending pain of the lost (Mark 9:47,48). See note on Jer. 19:6." (1) No, I do not believe that we can get the meaning from this verse that we will see glimpses of those in hell while we are in heaven.
