Subject: Please explian this verse to me. |
Bible Note: Hi Nolan Keck, Since verse 3 speaks of "And nations will come to your light,..." I think that the light is not referring to the Lord Himself. The preceding verses in chapter 59 are talking about the Redeemer coming, the Spirit coming upon you, and words being given to say and keep in mind. It seems to me that it is talking about how they are to shine as lights in the world. I have compared this verse with Acts 13:47. I have chosen the NKJ, "For so the Lord has commanded us; "(I) have set you as a light to the Gentiles, That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.'" Also, Isaiah 42:6, "I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you, And (I) will appoint you as a covenant to the people, As a light to the nations,..." Compare or contrast Isaiah 51:4 also, "Pay attention to Me, O My people; And give ear to Me, O My nation; For a law will go forth from Me, And I will set (My) justice for a light of the peoples." Parentheses are mine for comparison. Later, Ray |
