NASB | Isaiah 6:13 "Yet there will be a tenth portion in it, And it will again be subject to burning, Like a terebinth or an oak Whose stump remains when it is felled. The holy seed is its stump." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 6:13 "And though a tenth [of the people] remain in the land, It will again be subject to destruction [consumed and burned], Like a massive terebinth tree or like an oak Whose stump remains when it is chopped down. The holy seed [the elect remnant] is its stump [the substance of Israel]." |
Bible Question:
Please explain... the holy seed is its stump in Isaiah 6:13. What is the significanca of the stump of the oak tree? What does the substance (of Israel) mean as stated in the amplified bible. Thanks. Seedling |
Bible Answer: God's chosen people is Israel. Israel was disobedient, and God cut them off in many ways-the exile to Assyria of the ten tribes, and the exile to Babylon of Judah. The picture here is of Israel, as an oak tree that has been cut off. The stump, which includes the root, the lifegiving portion of the tree, is what is left of Israel after God has purified it. |
