Bible Note: Dear Brian, I appreciate what you and Brother Brad have posted. If you don't mind, I would like to augment what you have said... If the Bible cannot validate itself, then why would we seek any validation for it at all? We believe what we believe because the Bible states that it is so. The Scripture is our authority. If we really needed external validation, then that external thing would be our authority. Indeed, a need for external validation is evidence that we base our authority elsewhere than in the Word. If, for example, "hard-core empirical data" is needed, this reveals that they have already pledged their allegiance to the god of empiricism. Any validation of the Bible starts with what it says about itself, then -- after all is said and done -- it ends with what the Bible says about itself. If this is not the most fundamental presupposition of our faith, we have -- quite literally -- nothing else. In Him, Doc |
