Bible Question: could you explain to me was isaiah stating this in verse one or was it GOD? |
Bible Answer: Isaiah 55:1. You ask "could you explain to me was isaiah stating this in verse one or was it GOD?" Oddly enough who is speaking in any given passage of the Bible and most other books can usually be determined by reading that passage in context. I.e., usually somewhere near the quotation the book will tell who is speaking. In the NIV, the preceding chapter (Isa. 54) is in quotation marks. The last phrase of the last verse in chapter 54 ends with closing quotation marks followed by the phrase "declares the Lord." Quotation marks begin chapter 55 in verse 1. (Remember that chapter and verse divisions are made by man and are arbitrary; they are not included in the text of the original manuscripts.) Then the last three words in 55:8 are "declares the Lord." Thus it is apparent in the context of the passage that the person who is speaking is the Lord. |
