Bible Question: I have been studying this in context and I am understanding it differently than the way it is most commonly preached. Can you give me your insights on this verse. What do you think it means by "Line upon Line, precept upon precept?" there is no reason to quote Matthew Henry or other well known commentaries, I would be interested in your thought based on the logical reading of the context. Thanks. |
Bible Answer: 1 Cor. 3:11-15 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. [12] Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; [13] Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. [14] If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. [15] If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Luke 6:48-49 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. [49] But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. In the beginning God... all truths rest upon this bedrock... Christ is that Rock one truth (line) must rest upon a truth previous to it... Psalm 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? 1 Cor. 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. Christ knew that if they would not receive Moses words... He had nothing to build on in their faith.... John 5:45-47 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. [46] For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. [47] But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? this is the very reason cults are so difficult to witness to.. they define words differently than the Christian and you can’t build upon their “truth” |
