Bible Question: When was satan (or Lucifer) cast out of heaven, or has it not happened yet? I am referring to Rev 12:9 when the dragon is cast out of heaven. |
Bible Answer: Hi Tim, The initial fall of satan is depicted in Isaiah 14:12ff. Debatable (but probable) is also the reference in Ezek. 28. Rev. 12:9, really seems to be describing the future War in Heaven. The Prophecy Knowledge Handbook says: "The beginning of the Great Tribulation, which is Israel’s special time of trouble, is also marked by war in heaven. John wrote, “And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down-that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him” (Rev. 12:7–9). Earlier the Roman Empire is pictured as the dragon (v. 4), but here the dragon is identified as Satan himself who especially is in control of the world government at the period before the Second Coming. Until this event takes place, Satan is allowed in heaven and accuses the brethren as he did in the case of Job. The casting of Satan to the earth also marks the beginning of the most awful period in human history, the Great Tribulation." I hope this helps to answer your question. BradK |
