Bible Question: whats the difference between weeping and crying? |
Bible Answer: There is, essentially, no difference. The words can be used interchangably. Weeping is a perhaps more formal way of saying that salty liquid is coming from one's eyes. In my own mind, I think of weeping as a bit more intense than crying, but that is my own connotation. There are instances of Christ weeping in the NT, he wept over the death of Lazarus and over the sad state of Jerusalem. We know from scripture that it is okay to weep. Ecc. 3:4 says "There is a time to weep and a time to laugh.." We also know that weeping can be a blessing: In Luke 6:21 Jesus says, "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh." |
