Bible Question: Does anyone know of any scriptures/verses that will help heal/deal with problems of a defiant 16 yr old step son |
Bible Answer: BeccaG, As a parent, I can sympathize with your dilemma. Without trying to counsel you specifically, these are difficult years for teens- defiant or not! James Dobson's book , "Parenting isn't For Cowards" may be of help to you. Many children at this age, mistake respect as a given instead of something that's earned. Here are a few scriptures that may help. Prov. 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it." Prov. 23:13-14 " Do not hold back discipline from the child, Although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike him with the rod And rescue his soul from Sheol." Prov. 29:15, 17 "The rod and reproof give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother. Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul." Eph. 6:1-4 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Col. 3:20-21 "Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart." If you're plugged into a good church, I'd recommend seeking the advice and counsel of a pastor or fellow believer to help you. Lastly, remember Phil. 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." I hope this helps, Bradk |
