Subject: Using Words with Restraint! |
Bible Note: The Proper Use of Words...... Prov. 17:27 says this about the man of knowledge: "A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered." What are the proper uses of words? 1) To tell the truth: Prov. 8:8 says, "All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse." Verses 6 and 7 also describe them as 'right' and 'true'. Words used properly will always be based upon reality. This rules out slander, lies, ect.... 2) To rescue: Prov. 12:6 says, " The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them." Words used properly will be redemptive, not destructive. 3) To heal: Prov. 12:18 says, "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." 4) To instruct: Prov. 16:21 says, "The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction." See also v. 24. Granted, not everyone will respond even to pleasant and just words of instruction. However, let us all strive to use our words with restraint. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
