AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 13:24 He who withholds the rod [of discipline] hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines and trains him diligently and appropriately [with wisdom and love]. [Prov 19:18; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15, 17; Eph 6:4] |
Bible Question: What does the verse To spare the rof is to spoil the child mean! or rather where is it. |
Bible Answer: Greetings, genny. Proverbs 13:24 Amplified "He who spares his rod [of discipline] hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines diligently and punishes him early." "Spare the rod, spoil the child" is apparently a very old and common saying that to me appears to be a corruption of this verse. While it is true that undisciplined children will be "spoiled", the indictment of scripture is against the parent(s). Kind regards, Tim D. Cormier Tennessee Pastor |
