Subject: An experiance with fame |
Bible Note: Greetings, Without going to great lengths to relay my story, let me just say that there WAS a time in my life where I experienced fame. And as a Christian, I found that I was virtually powerless to prevent what is very natural in all mankind from occurring - PRIDE. Regardless of what I told myself, I found pleasure in the attention of thousands while failing to give God my own attention. Here is the trap laid by a deceitful enemy, and God will allow us to proceed as a test... For scripture, I always think of the Apostle Paul, who in his waning moments of his life in Phillipians 3, detailed that "he had reason to glory." But look where all of the notoriety left him - willing to "count in all but dung that I may gain Christ." This gain is not a positional gain (initial salvation) for he at this point had been saved some 30 years. But his desire was found in verse 10 of chapter 3 - "that I may know more about Him!" This attitude of heart is extremely difficult when dealing with fame. I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE. I would also suggest a careful meditation upon 2Cor.12:6-11. You'll find that Paul was given a thorn in the flesh that helped him deal with that flesh nature that desires to glory in things associated with SELF. May God enlighten us all about His desires and purposes for our lives. |
