Bible Question: Can you expand an explanation of what is the glory of God and how we are to be mirrors reflecting Him? |
Bible Answer: In Exodus 33:18 we find Moses praying, "I pray Thee, show me Thy Glory!" NAS God answered and said that He would make all His goodness pass before you and proclaim to Moses His name. Exodus 34:6 finds the fulfillment of this promise, while Moses is placed in the cleft of the rock, Notice what God says when He shows Moses His glory! Ex 34:6-7 6 Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; 7 who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations. " My thought is this, The glory of the Lord is the very character of God as revealed to Moses on the mount. the Glory of the Lord is based on How God Responds to His creation! The glory of the Lord is Compassion, Graciousnness, slow to anger and abounding in Lovingkindness and truth, It's keeping His promises (who keeps lovingkindness for thousands) It's forgiving iniquity, transgression and sin! To me, the glory of God is not just a bright physical light! It is Light, but this is what the light looks like! And to reflect the glory of God is simply by faith, through the power of the Spirit, we find ourselves compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindess (mercy, grace) and truth, Keeping our promises and forgiving iniquity transgression and sin. I have a beautiful painting in my office of the Good Samaritan, The picture has The samaritan holding his jewish neighbor and taking care of him. If you know the story you know that this Samaritan, stopped what He was doing, and took care of this neighbor, both present needs and future needs. I look at this picture and I think, "The Glory of God!" the Good Samaritan is reflecting the glory of God! He is reflecting God himself! In short, perhaps the greatest definition of reflecting His glory is when we are loving God with all of our hearts, minds, souls and strenghts and when we are loving our neighbor as ourselves! This message has transformed my life as well as the church I pastor, as we pursue God and His glory at home, to the ends of the earth and every place in between. The bottom line is that we increasingly desire to be a people who reflect His glory by loving well! |
