Bible Question: There was a thread going on with a few of us talking about how Jesus Christ is indeed God and was seen by many people here on earth (now bodily resurrected sitting in Heaven), and at the same time the Bible says that those who see God will die (Ex 3:20). Both of these are true at the same time, but is there any Biblical reference to how this works (I know with God all things are possible, so I don't question that it is, but I just want to know how)? |
Bible Answer: Greetings James210! Here is a repost of a past post of mine! *********************** "Face to Face" is a figure of speech which indicates an intimate relationship. Num. 12:8 defines what the phrase "face to face" means: " With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”" However, it doesn't contradict John 1:18. No one, other than Christ, has ever seen God in all of His glory. Individuals, like Moses, have seen partial manifestations of God. But, none has ever seen God's as He really is. None could! Ex. 33:20 says, "But,” he said, ‘‘you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”" *********************** So, I would say that 'seeing' God in this verse does not refer to see a manifestation of God or even an incarnation of God, but 'fully' seeing His glory. This is impossible. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
