Bible Question: Is there any signifigance of the number 12? Why were there 12 apostles, not 10 or 11 ? Thanks. |
Bible Answer: Hi, rickylee! The reason why twelve are chosen as disciples (later to be Apostles) is due to the twelve tribes of Israel (the twelve sons of Jacob)... During the Old Testatament (Old Covenant) Yahweh God established the twelve tribes as the people of Israel, His people... the Word incarnate, Jesus, came to His own and they did not receive Him (John 1:1-14); He came so that all may obtain God's mercy and thus He chose twelve disciples to represent the New Testament (New Covenant) and to maintain the line of the Promise (then to the children by blood/flesh of Abraham; in Jesus, children of Abraham by Faith). Read: Exodus 21:17-21; 24:4; 39:14 and Genesis 35:10-12. God Bless! Angel |
