Bible Question:
In Ex.26:14 when talking about the tabernacles coverings, the NIV calls the coverings sea cows or dugong, however, the King James Version translates the coverings as badger's skin, which is an unclean animal according to Lev 11:26-29. Why would any unclean animal go on the tabernacle (badger skin in KJV)? |
Bible Answer: Strongs lists the word translated badger as; tachash, probably of foreign derivative; a (clean) animal with fur, probably a species of antelope :- badger. NASB lists it as (1065a); of unc. der.; perh. porpoise (a kind of leather or skin):— porpoise(12), porpoise skin(2). From this we can clearly see the actual animal is up for debate. However whatever it was you can be sure it was a clean animal not the animal we now call a badger which eats dead animal remains and thus is declared unclean. EdB |
