Bible Question: When God gave Israel the Ten Commandements at Mount Sinai, did He hold any other nation or country accountable to that which he gave Israel? Especially their relationship to God. (no other gods, no images, taking His name in vain, the Sabbath day?) Arnie |
Bible Answer: Greetings Arnie! After reading and studying Exodus 20 and the surrounding chapters, I have never found any evidence whatsoever that the Ten Commandments were directed towards or applicable to any other nation except for Israel. Israel alone was God's chosen people, and Israel alone would be the recipient and keeper of the Ten Commandments. However, I am not saying that the other nations of the world were in any way exempt from their sins by not having the Ten Commandments. Israel was God's chosen nation, and Israel was to be the people of God in the midst of the world at large. However, God has now opened the doors for all to come to Him, when His Son came to take upon Himself the sins of the whole world (Romans 5:6, 1 John 2:2). Blessings to you, Makarios |
