Bible Question: Does God view bankruptcy as a legal form of stealing? The Bible instructs us, "Owe no man". I was head over hills in credit card debt which I could see no way out for many years. I had closed one department store card for approximately 3 years and, after such time, the balance reduced only approximately 500 with still an outstanding balance of 2,300. This particular credit card creditor charged an unreasonable and unfair amount of interest as did most the others. Another card creditor was closed for approximately 5 years to which the balance only reduced approximately 500 with an outstanding balance of 800. I feel these creditors have been paid for the merchandise, but the outstanding balance is pure interest which is stealing, in my opinion, from consumers. Do I attempt to pay these creditors one by one? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. God bless you. |
Bible Answer: Larry Burkett, a Christian man, wise in financial matters has said, that even you declare bankruptcy, you should repay your creditors ... even if you are not legally obligated. You may want to visit his site: www.crown.org/ First, set up a budget and stick to it. Never forget to first give your tithe. Work with you creditors ... show them your plan. You may even want to pay off one at a time, making the minimum the the others. Advice I have also heard. They are not stealing from you ... when you borrowed, you promised to pay by a certain time. It is now a penalty. |
