Bible Question: I lost my son in a violent crime. a preacher from a local church sent home a passage for me to read and I felt that was the only thing I had to hold on to, to get me through. I cannot find it now. It said something about sometime the young are taken early if they have a treacherous, troubles path ahead. Does this sound familiar to anyone? |
Bible Answer: Dear Diana, Welcome to the forum! I am very saddened at hearing of the loss of your son. I can't help but to grieve with you. Sometimes when we ask "Why?" it isn't so much that we want a logical explanation. Instead it is because we think that God is not justified in doing what has caused us so much pain. It is true that we examine the lives of other people -- and even our own lives -- by what we do. In fact, that is what the Bible tells us is at the root of discernment. However, with God, we do not discern who He is by what He does, rather we discern the truth about what He does by who He is. Scripture tells us that God is perfectly good, loving, infinitely wise and powerful. There is not one molecule that is outside of His control. Therefore, we know that whatever happens will ultimately be for our good and for His glory. How that is the case, we cannot now know. Consequently, I believe that what you expressed in your question was sound, though I do not know the particular passage that you are seeking. Perhaps, however, Psalm 116:15 may be of solace to you. Meanwhile, everyone who reads this will be praying for you. People from all over the world. Most of whom do not write on this forum, but only read it. They will be faithful to pray, some of them will also have had the same experience (2 Corinthians 1:5-7). In Him, Doc |
