Bible Question: Opinions abound about the origin, nature, powers, characteristics and aims of Satan. But what exactly do we know (k-n-o-w) -- FROM SCRIPTURE, not opinion please -- about Satan? --Hank |
Bible Answer: Dear Hank, Many times in Scripture, students of the Bible are commanded to be obedient to the words of the Text. One such commandment is found in Matt 10:6, where we as students are directed to be wise as serpents, and within this commandment for obedience I find many opinions within the very pages of Scripture to answer a great question you have asked. A question that surprises me not to have had more participants, confirming the very real and visible existence of satan in our surrounding daily world. Satan is allowed to have many things which I believe can be answered primarily through the questions you have asked as follows, origin ----------- created by God Eze 28:15 nature ----------- a covering cherub Eze 28:16 powers ----------- wisdom - full of wisdom Eze 28:12; subtilty 2Cor 11:3 power - by the power of his brightness his wisdom is corrupted Eze 28:17; satan also has power to deceive by his subtilty 2Cor 11:3; satan offers Jesus power Luke 4:6 riches -every precious stone as a covering Eze 28:13; satan promises the world in a false promise to Jesus Luke 4:7 strength - strength can be seen in the ability to walk amongst the stones of fire Eze 28:14 or being perfect in his ways Eze 28:15; strength in the abillity to show Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time from the top of a mountain Luke 4:5 honour - annointed cherub Eze 28:14; called a king Rev 9:11 glory - heart lifted because of his own beauty Eze28:17; transformed into an angel of light 2Cor 11:14 Characteristics --------------------- greed - 1Tim 6:9,10 envy - Rom 1:29 powerful- the temptations of Matt 4 and Luke 4 and the ability to show and do things that satan did shows a great deal of power. To blind eyes 2Cor 4:4 jealous - he wants to be God Dan 11:36,Isa 14:13,14 I believe the aim of satan is to deceive all the creation into believing satan is God and that the creation can be as gods too if they follow and worship him. These are many things I believe Scripture teaches about satan in relation to your question. Bless you, Love Fountain 2 Tim 2:14-15 14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
