Bible Question:
Best commentary on revelation? . . . This is another non-answer to a question originally posted on 03-13-2001, 8:56PM. I hope that some of the members of this forum find the following to be informative and of interest. . . . I fully concur with EdB's (see Answer on Revelation by EdB, 03-20-2001, 1:19PM) short list of authors recommended for their reliability and trustworthiness. Following is a list of authors who, in my opinion, are doctrinally sound, reliable, and trustworthy in their teachings and writings. They are rooted firmly in the Bible and in the mainstream of the historic Christian faith. They are: . . . 1) The Christian Research Institute; 2)David Jeremiah; 3) D. James Kennedy; 4) John MacArthur; 5) Josh McDowell; 6) Charles Caldwell Ryrie; 7) Adrian Rogers; 8) R.C. Sproul; 9) Charles Stanley; 10) Chuck Swindoll. . . . (Disclaimer: Infallibility is claimed neither for or by any man on this list. No man is infallible. No translation of the Bible is infallible. Only the Bible itself IN THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS is both without error and incapable of error. Also, I do not claim this to be an exhaustive list of every reliable author in the history of the church. These names are merely among today's best known and most trusted teachers and writers. If I left out your favorite, I apologize. I am only speaking for myself, and no one else.) |
Bible Answer: The best commentary of the last book. The book of revalation is the first book;the book of Genesis. For everything that was sown has its fullfillment in the book of revalation. Thus to understand the last book you must get a good grasp of the first. For by thier fruits shall ye know them. But as we know every seed bringeth forth fruit after its own kind the fruit is predestined therefore by the seed that is sown. I would argue therefor that to have your thinking rooted in Genesis you will not be swayed by the senasational and latest 'revalations' that sweeps through the church. But being rooted and grounded in the truth might come to a knowledge of the truth concerning the book of revalation. For reading any amount of books is not the answer. For "if everything that jesus said and did had bene written down the world woudl not be able to contain them"(John) Therefore not everything that he DID do or say was written. But everything that was needed was and everything that was not needed was not. Thus the seed which is the Word of God has that property that it is not the tree from wence it came.Yet it has within it every thing that is needed to reproduce itself. Add to it and it will not.Take from it and it will not. But that seed to is predestined to bring forth fruit after its own kind. For in the begining you ahve the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. In the begining God commanded the light to shine in the darkness and then seperated the light from the darkness. Well he does not change so He was in the beginning So He is at the end and there too will He seperate the children of light from the children who loved darkness rather than the light. Which ever author you read or how many by what criteria will you judge who speaks the truth and who does not? For if 'you' are not led by HIM who leadeth into all truth concerning the scriptures why is it thought a man may well do so by another author? Thereofore I contend that in the mind of God there is no confusion. But rather even as He inspired John so to right accordignot the mind of God.The Spirit of truth is also needed to understand what is written according to the mind of God. There need be NO division or contention as to thew truth then. But only between those who love it and those who dont. For if eh will lead us into ALL truth. Then there is nothing outside of ALL . Therefore with a willing heart and in complete submission to God "leaning not upon our own understanding......" He will by degree lead us into all truth that we might come to know the truth and thus be made free. Gbzones |
