Bible Question: In many conservative churches, we have seen examples of some men in church leadership ministry (pastor, elder, deacon, minister, etc.) who, after having been caught in adultery, have been removed from ministry, who no longer have effective ministries, and who are no longer able to serve in those capacities. My question is: If a man had premarital sex while as a youth and as a Christian, should he biblically be considered for and allowed to serve in a leadership position (as pastor, elder, deacon, minister, etc.)? |
Bible Answer: This is not totally a Biblical answer but premarital sex is as any other sin we all have committed. If we have confessed our sins to the Lord and turned our lives around,We have been reborn. We are a different person and with experience, education and Gods blessing we should be able to hold any possition within the church. The Bible gives guidelines but does not state you could not be a former sinner.(We all are). I will add that you cannot be an active sinner like the elected Homosexual in a certain Church. Bishop????
