Subject: Self control, and Spirit control? |
Bible Note: This is a followup on a question I asked. I believe the answer below is the correct answer. The answer came from one of the people I asked. REFERENCES 1 Cor 9:25 Self control Eph 5:18 Spirit control QUESTION How is it then, that we are to be both self controlled, and be filled (controlled) by the Holy Spirit? ANSWER The Holy Spirit guides, convicts, instructs, and helps us. He is the Wonderful Counselor. The control He exerts is influence, but we always have the option of rejecting Him. We have the freedom of choice so that we are not simply robots. We can try self control on our own, but we will fail without truth and wisdom. The transforming work He does is also control, but we must submit or yield to His way. When we are filled with the Holy Sprit, we enter into a partnership with Him, He changes our character (Spirit control) as we submit to His authority (self control). |
