Bible Question:
History of the Book of Galatians. |
Bible Answer: Galations was written by Paul about 49 AD from Antioch. It was written to the churches in southern Galatia founded on Paul's first missionary journey. The book of Galations is the charter of Christian freedom. Paul proclaims the liberty in Christ - freedom from the law, and the power of sin to serve Jesus Christ. Many of the first converts and early leaders in the church were Jewish. These Jewish Christians proclaimed Christ as their Savior, but they found confusion in being strict Jews who were brought up following the law and being free now in Jesus Christ. There were many arguments over where the law stopped and this freedom began. There were also controversy over whether Gentiles must first become Jewish proselytes and submit to the Mosaic law before they could become Christians. The Jewish believers could not understand how the Gentiles fit into the picture and how they could be going to heaven. Galations was written to put an end to all the false teachings that was undermining the NT doctrine of justifacation by faith and not by works. Hope this helps. prayon |
