Bible Question: This might sound like an easy question to answer, but I'm confused. I am a single male (never been married) dating a single female (never been married). Would having sex be a sin? The Ten Commandments don't address this issue (see Exodus 20:3-17) nor is it addressed in the two commandments on which the whole Law and the Prophets depend on (see Matt 22:36-40). |
Bible Answer: JMR, crowleypreacher and prayon both gave sound answers. I could make a case that sex outside marriage is coveting (because she does not belong to you) and you are not loving your neighbor as yourself (the neighbor being her, and both future mates). The greatest gift you can give your future mate is your virginity on your wedding night. If that is no longer possible, stay pure until then. As prayon said, it is not just intercourse, but anything that could arouse either of you. My dad had a great rule -- looky, talky, no touchy. The world says if you love each other, it is okay to kiss, hold hands, embrace ... But, there are many other ways to show your love. Learn her language of love. Steve |
