Bible Question: My neighbor believes in soul sleep. He says that the body and soul are one, and we lay in the grave at death until the final resurrection. I believe that we go immediately to heaven(our soul) at death, and we are reunited with our bodies at the return of Jesus to Earth. Can anyone help me? |
Bible Answer: Hello KBDVM, Hope this helps. Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life: and man became a living soul. The breath of God is not in human form, it is a part of Him given to us, without a soul, or spirit, we are nothing. Psalm 31:5, David wrote, "Into thine hand I commit my spirit..." It clearly states we commit our spirit, not our flesh. Jesus says in Mark 14:38, Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. Galatians 5:16-18 goes on to say, "This I say then. Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law." It goes on to talk about the works of the flesh and the fruits of the spirit. I believe we are a spirit that lives in a body, when we die, our spirit leaves our body, therefore like David says, we commit our spirit into God's hand. |
