Bible Question: I see alot of people are using the title "Apostle" now. What are the qualification and responsibilities for such title and what exactly is an Apostle? Who bestows that title to someone? |
Bible Answer: Hi Hood Rat The people holding the cessationist belief always seem to wrap things up so neatly, stating all of the qualifications that one would need, in order for a person to be called an apostle. There are four other parts of what is called the five fold ministry, did they also have to meet this criteria? Special Qualifications: The qualifications of the apostles Acts 1:21-22. They must have been with Jesus during His earthly ministry (v.21), been baptized by John the Baptist (v.22), and been eyewitnesses of the resurrected Christ (v.22). Then conveniently they claim Paul was given a special exemption, so he could become an apostle, he was an eyewitness of the resurrected Christ This is the type of thing that is so often done, when there isn't any scripture to back up the argument. This is what happens when we all know for a certainty, PAUL "was" an apostle, so the only way the cessationist belief can come about is to pull up an assumption, that he was given an exemption, which cannot be documented. None of the other apostles were given any kind of exemption, they fulfilled this criteria, even Matthias had to fulfill this supposed criteria. Vintage68 |
