Bible Question: my question is: Do we need the Holy Spirit to go to heaven or is it just to survive on earth? |
Bible Answer: When we are saved, (when we confess our sins and ask Jesus to become Lord of our lives), we receive the holy spirit. We must be saved to enter the kingdom of heaven. Check out the third chapter of the book of John. Jesus talks with Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council and tells him that unless he is born again, he will not see the kingdom of God. "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit," says Jesus. So, in a manner of speaking, yes, we must have the Holy Spirit to go to Heaven. Of our relationship with the Holy Spirit while in heaven, I am not sure. The Holy Spirit was sent to earth as "The Counselor." In Heaven, we will not need counseling, nor will we need teaching or knowledge. Jesus said: John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." However, the Holy Spirit is still, intrinsically God and we will be with God in heaven, so we will also be with the Holy Spirit. |
