Bible Question: What do I need to do to have a close relationship with God? |
Bible Answer: The best way to understand having a relationship with God is by reading the book of John. Here we find the best description of who Jesus is and the only way to have a close relationship with God is through the Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6-- "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but through me." So what you need to have a close relationship through Jesus Christ is to have your sins forgiven. All mankind is under the penalty of sin. Because of sin, it is impossible for man to have a relationship with God. Sin seperates us from a Holy God in that we are under condemnation and the wrath of God. God provided a way for us to be reconciled to Him. He provided His Son to be the payment for sin ( 1 John 2:1-2 ). Jesus Christ took the sin of the whole world upon Himself on the cross so that anyone who places faith in what He did on the cross and through His resurrection from the dead has eternal life and relationship restored with God. ( Romans 10:9-10) Since upon faith our relationship with God has been restored, we now have the Holy Spirit living inside who directs our relationship. As we are convicted of sin and are changed through the Spirit's power working within us we have a daily walk and talk with God. |
