Bible Question: what does john 14:7 talk about |
Bible Answer: firstladyminister, John 14:7-11 - Show Us The Father. The point that Jesus is making here is that He has completely and perfectly represented Father God to them. No one can look the Father in the face. Remember, Moses made a similar request of God, saying, Exod.33:18 ..."I pray Thee, show me Thy glory!" But God's response to Moses was, Exod. 33:20 ..."You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!" Philip wants to see the Father. But Jesus says, "Philip, I've perfectly represented Him to you. He's in Me, and I'm in Him. I speak what He tells Me to, I do what He tells Me to. So, although you'd die instantly if you saw the Father's face, you have already seen the Father through My words and My works." So many people want to see God. And they know they can't look up at the sky and catch a glimpse of Him. So they turn to the church and say, "Show us the Father." What does the church show them? If they show them the words and the works of God, they show them the Father. But all too many are shown gossip. Judgement. Hatred. Backbiting. Immorality. And many people have decided that Christians cannot show them the Father. And so they turn elsewhere. Paul said to the Jews that were living hypocritically, Rom. 2:22-24 You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? For "THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU,"... Let's take a look at ourselves. Every week, people come to us, hoping that we'll show them the Father. Let's be sure to show them the words of God, and the work of God, that they will not turn away from God.
