Bible Question: Why does Mark not talk about the birth of Jesus like the other three Gospels? |
Bible Answer: For Mark, the beginning of the story of Jesus - the gospel or good news - was the baptism of Jesus by John because that was the beginning of Jesus' public career. The circumstances surrounding Jesus' birth, while they were wonderful and attracted attention at the time, do not seem to have been public knowledge by the time Jesus began his ministry. Compare Peter's presentation of the gospel message, as he begins with Jesus' baptism and concludes with the Resurrection. (Acts 10:36-43) It was only with the passage of time that Matthew and Luke were inspired to tell the birth story in their gospel accounts. |
