Bible Question:  how do I applie this passage in mark, 11:20-24?

Bible Answer:  Hi Friendley,

This passage is a parallel to Matthew 21:18-22

You have to go back to verse 11 to get Jesus' mind set. He went into the temple and "looked around at everything". Were the money changers there at that time? I don't know, maybe.

On his way back to Jerusalem Jesus cursed the fig tree because it had no fruit. This is kind of a parallel to how the scribes and Pharisee’s present the outward appearance of Godliness but have nothing of God in their hearts, they bear no fruit. Likewise the Fig tree appeared to have fruit but was bearing leaves only and usually when there are leaves, there are figs.

Then notice next that Jesus went into the Temple and drove out the money changers.
Mark 12 Jesus points out the widow throwing in her two mites.
Matthew 23 Jesus is speaking Woes unto the Scribes and Pharisees and how they “devour widows houses.”
Matthew 24 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
This I belive is symbolic to the fig tree in that the fig tree was dried up by it's roots and Jesus is going to do the same thing with the system that the Scribes and Pharisees hold. Utter destruction is what "not one stone upon another" signifies.

The other message from the fig tree is that if we have Faith in God, we can move mountains in our life. A mountain is representative of any insurmountable problem we might have in life. We don’t need to go around any mountains but we can move them as long as we have faith in God. Jesus says in verse 24, “"Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”

The main thing in that verse is “believe that you have received them”, which means you must believe the moment you pray for something that it will be done.
Look at it in the Amplified Version 23Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.
24For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].

However, you can’t stop at that verse. You have to read further to verses 25 and 26. We must not hold back forgiveness to anyone. If we Love Jesus, we must keep the Lords commandments (John 14:15). We must Love on another (John 16:17). We must abide in Jesus and have his Word abide in us (John 15:7). We are to “bear fruit”, fruit that is lasting [that it may remain, abide], John 15:16), then we will be granted what we ask as long as we believe.

Love in Jesus
