Bible Question: Equivalent of Thirty Pieces of Silver? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Fab Five, Thirty Pieces of Silver was the price of a slave (see Exodus 21:32). Zechariah had foreshadowed this sum in his prophetic actions (see Zech. 11:12,13). Thirty pieces of silver was equivalent to 120 denarii (a denarii was a day's wage [Matt. 20:1-16]). Now, if a current day's wage is 32 dollars, then thirty pieces of silver would be roughly equivalent to 3,840.00 U.S. dollars (32.00 U.S. dollars multiplied by 120). Thirty pieces of silver (or 3,840.00 U.S. dollars) was enough money to buy the Potter's Field (Matthew 27:7). Blessings to you, Makarios |
