Bible Question: Is there a way to find out if an evil spirit made you believe it was the Holy Spirit? I asked my husband (Mormon) to pray and ask that only the true spirit of God would speak to him and to come into his heart and he said that nothing became of it, but when he prayed years ago about the book of Mormon, he had a "burning in the bosom" and that is how he "KNOWS" the book of Mormon is true. However, I told him about the part in the bible that says that even a demon can present themself as a spirit of light. He continues to believe he is filled with the Holy Spirit. Is there any way that I can prove to him that he will believe that he doesn't have the true spirit? DD |
Bible Answer: Quite simply, no. Your words will not convince him of anything. It is highly unlikely that his prayer was one of faith since he has already had his belief (albiet false) confirmed by his "burning in the bosom". Our God is a God of humility and will not answer him in the way he expects. Mark 8:11-12 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign? I tell you the truth, no sign will be given to it." Your prayers to God on behalf of your husband for him to turn from falsehood and seek the truth will be much more effective than any proof you may provide him. Be sure that you remain steadfast in your own faith, doing nothing wrong so that your husband may not accuse you. You will discover your actions to be a much more powerful witness to your husband than any number of words. Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. James 5:13b The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. |
