Bible Question:
In 2Ch 36:9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD. but in the book of King 24:8 Ki 24:8 ΒΆ Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. what is the true Jehoiachin was eight years old when began to reign, or eighteen years old. God bless, |
Bible Answer: Hi jlpangilinan, I hope that this discrepancy does not affect your faith in the truthfullness of the Scriptures. It isn't exactly a question that will have any bearing on one's salvation. :) When I compare the verses here I look for what I can learn about God and our relationship with Him. I found that Jehoiachin "did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord". I think that that fact is more important than how old he was when he started to reign. I thought that it was interesting in comparing the passages that the temple, the house of the Lord is important. 2 Chronicles 36:7, "Nebuchadnezzar also brought some of the articles of the house of the Lord/ to Babylon and put them in his temple at Babylon....9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned three months AND TEN DAYS in Jerusalem, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord." It goes on and talks about the defilement of the house of the Lord/ which He had sanctified in Jerusalem. Contrast/compare that with 2 Chron 29:3 where the doors of the house of the Lord/ were repaired and the Levites consecrated themselves and consecrated the house of the Lord... Contrast/compare 2 Kings 24:13 where the vessels of gold were cut in pieces "which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord,/ just as the Lord had said." The slashes are mine for comparison; but what I am trying to say is that we should gain from the study of God's word more than dates and times. I say that as stating a general rule rather than a finding fault with your question. From the heart, Ray |
