Subject: Jonah ever get over his hatred? |
Bible Note: Hello again Steve! Isn't this a tragedy? How God's chosen servant does not show any joy in the wake of his mission being successful? His life was spared for this very purpose- to save the Ninevites! And yet he can thank and praise God in the belly of a whale and not give thanks to God for using him to save a nation? One can only wonder what would have happened if Jonah actually rejoiced with the Ninevites in their salvation and stayed with them a while longer as 'brothers and sisters' in the ways of God! The wrath spoken of in Nahum may have been thwarted or at least prolonged to some extent if Jonah had proved to be a more steady influence on the Ninevites (but of course, that would be speculation on my part).. It makes you wonder how effective his message was if he did not wholeheartedly believe in it? But even with that message, God was able to use him and speak through him to save those whom he hated. "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-2 Nolan |
