Bible Question: Is the 'day of the Lord' mentioned in Joel 1:15 referring to Christ's coming (the Gospels) or His second coming (1 Thess. 5:2)? Is this the same 'day of the Lord' that is referred to by Paul in 1 Thess. 5:2? |
Bible Answer: The "day of the Lord" is a common phrase in the OT and in the book of Joel (2:1,11,31;3:14). It always refers to some extraordinary happening, whether a present event (like a locust plague), an event in the near future (like the destruction of Jerusalem or the defeat of enemy nations), or the final period of history when God will defeat all the forces of evil. Even when the day of the Lord refers to a present event, it also pictures the final day of the Lord. It can be referring to the same thing as 1Thess 5:2 or it can be referring to the 2nd coming. I believe it is refering to the 2nd coming. Another good one to ask Jesus when we see him......prayon |
