NASB | 2 Kings 24:2 The LORD sent against him bands of Chaldeans, bands of Arameans, bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites. So He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD which He had spoken through His servants the prophets. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Kings 24:2 The LORD sent marauding bands of Chaldeans, Arameans (Syrians), Moabites, and Ammonites against Jehoiakim. And He sent them against Judah to destroy it, in accordance with the word of the LORD which He spoke through His servants the prophets. |
Bible Question:
Here, in 2 Kings, we have a fleeting reference to "the prophets." I was wondering if Jeremiah is meant here -- considering Jeremiah 26 ff explicitly speaks of King Jehoiakim? My larger question is about the links with Jeremiah and the other books. Here are some connections that have made me curious: 1) The "historical appendix" at the end of Jeremiah is transcribed directly from 2 Kings. 2) Baruch leads me to the book of Baruch. 3) Lamentations traditionally attributed to Jeremiah. Are there other connections I should know about? Yours JRM |
Bible Answer: JRM I think Isaiah is one of the the prophets referred to here from 2 Kings 20:17. However Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, Habakkuk, and others all spoke a similar warning. Jeremiah could very well have been included. I think you have discovered all the connections I was aware of. EdB |
