AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Kings 23:36 ¶ Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. |
Bible Question: Why is the king's mother mentioned and then her father, even where he was from? It seems to be fairly consistent in the books of the Kings. |
Bible Answer: Well, it was obvious who the father was. And since each king had so many wives, it was necesary to distinguish. In some places you will also note that they do this to point out that the kings had foreign wives which was against the law of Moses, and thus how the influence of the mother effected the outcome of Israel, just as the scripture worns would happen. |
