AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Kings 23:26 ¶ However, the LORD did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath which was kindled against Judah because of all the despicable acts with which Manasseh had provoked Him. |
Bible Question:
Why didn't the Lord relent from His anger? What was it Manasseh did so bad, God did not reconsider? Why didn't He consider the reforms of Josiah (vv 1-25), like He did when Ninevah repented (Jon 3:10)? |
Bible Answer: True, Manasseh was a very wicked King. You will also find mention of God making this statement in regards to others in the Bible such as Saul, Edom and so forth. Yet, you will also see him forgive David of all his terrible sins. The differnece is in the heart. One heart continued in rebellion and was only sorrowful for the punishment and what would be suffered. The other heart cared deeply about God's opinion and loved the punishment, knowing that God was correct and would heal and remove the evil in the heart. The difference is that one dispised the punishment and the other did not. |
