NASB | 1 Kings 2:22 King Solomon answered and said to his mother, "And why are you asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him also the kingdom--for he is my older brother--even for him, for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah!" |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Kings 2:22 King Solomon answered and said to his mother, "And why are you asking for Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask the kingdom for him also--since he is my older brother--[ask it] for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab the son of Zeruiah [his supporters]!" |
Bible Question (short): Why did King David have Adonijah killed? |
Question (full): In I Kings Chapter 2:13-25, Adonijah asked King Solomon's mother, Bathsheba, to ask King Solomon to give Abishag, King David's nurse, to himself as his wife. When King David was requested this by his mother, his response was more than an answer to Adonijah's request, and in verse 24 and 25 King David orders that Adonijah be killed. I don't understand why King David had Adonijah killed for wanting to marry Abishag. Thank you. |
