Bible Question: Do you think that Moses and Aaron's request to let Israel go into the desert to hold a festival was reasonable? Why |
Bible Answer: ronscarpet- I think there might have been some duplicity in the request. First, if they were away under the pretext of holding a festival, it would have bought them some time. Secondly, Egypt had different gods that were worshipped and the way they were worshipped were vastly different then the way the Jews worshipped the Lord. Pharoah was considered a god to the Egyptians and to worship Jehovah would have been an affront to the Egyptians. This is just conjecture and I may be wrong, but it could be possible. I do know that the Egyptians didn't think much of sheep (Joseph told his brothers to tell Pharoah that they were cattlemen, remember?) and to see sheep being sacrificed could have caused some problems, even having sheep in the area of the Egyptians could have caused difficulties.
