Bible Question: In Genesis 18 Abraham intercedes for the people of Sodom and the Lord tells him he will not destroy it "on account of the 10". In Genesis 19 the Lord destroys Sodom. Why did He destroy Sodom if he said he wouldn't? |
Bible Answer: butchb, The exchange with Abraham is hypothetical. Abraham is asking, if there are 10 righteous in Sodom, will you spare the city? God's reply is that the city would be spared on account of the ten righteous, but the understood implication is that would happen IF there were ten righteous to be found. However, the point is that there were not ten righteous men found there, so God's wrath came upon the city. In Christ, Beja |
