Bible Question: Was the rain that started the 40 day flood, the first time it ever rained? |
Bible Answer: At first, the plants were watered by a mist that used to rise from the surface of the ground. Rain did not begin till after the "floodgates" of the sky were opened. Compare these verses: Gen 2:5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. Gen 2:6 But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground. AND Gen 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. Gen 7:12 The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. |
