NASB | 2 Samuel 22:1 And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Samuel 22:1 David spoke the words of this song to the LORD when the LORD rescued him from the hands of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. |
Bible Question: Is this song really so much about David, or at least _just_ about him? I wonder if it isn't as much or more about Jesus than it is about David. For example, how could David say (about himself!) the words found in verses 21-25? It would be incredibly arrogant for any human besides Jesus to utter these words about themself, would it not? |
Bible Answer: On the surface it may appear to be arrogant. However the Lord chose David specifically because of his heart's condition. David wrote most of the Psalms. In reading them we see that he was constantly praising the Lord, being thankful, adoring the Lord. I check the cross references in the margin of my bible when reading a passage. These will shed light on the context of the passage also showing if it is a prophecy about the Lord. There can be a near and far interpretation meaning there may be an immediate meaning.,i.e. Regarding David and a far interpretation meaning a future event, i.e. Regarding our Lord. Hope this helps. |
