AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Samuel 13:18 Now Tamar was wearing a [long-sleeved] robe of various colors; for that is how the virgin daughters of the king dressed themselves in robes. Then Amnon's personal servant took her out and bolted the door behind her. |
Bible Question: If the coat of many colours was a female's coat indicating a virgin, WHY did Jacob give Joseph such a coat? (a coat of many colours.) |
Bible Answer: Hi Meusing, That's a great question! A few things come to mind regarding this. Joseph lived many hundred years prior to David, and fashions may have changed. Also, this verse doesn't say that this was how all the virgin females dressed, but that the king's virgin daughters dressed that way. Jacob gave Joseph his special robe to show his favor to him, and David may have done the same thing, giving special robes to his daughters to show his favor. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
