Bible Question: Help me understand the word lifeblood and its meaning. I could eat flesh as long as it doesnt have blood in it is how I read it and all flesh has blood in it. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Tony72, Here is a bit of commentary on this verse.. "9:4 blood. Raw blood was not to be consumed as food. It symbolically represented life. To shed blood symbolically represented death (cf. Lev. 17:11). The blood of animals, representing their life, was not to be eaten. It was, in fact, that blood that God designed to be a covering for sin (Lev. 17:11)." (1) "9:4 you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood. Lev. 17:14 stresses the intimate relationship between blood and life by twice declaring that "the life of every creature is its blood." Life is the precious and mysterious gift of God, and man is not to seek to preserve it or increase the life-force within him by eating "life" that is "in the blood" (Lev. 17:11)- as many pagan peoples throughout history have thought they could do." (2) "9:2-4 fear and terror now supplant the previous harmony between man and animals. God now sanctions an animal diet for man, as long as it is not eaten with blood (cf. Lev. 17:10)."
