Subject: how can I eat flesh |
Bible Note: Lisa Marie. Thanks for your reply. I met a farmer in my place of employment who chided me about the terrible tasting chicken we buy from the market which is so called "humanely slaughtered" by law by placing them on wire which is electrically charged and giving them a jolt rendering them unconscious before they are killed. This method of slaughter stops the pumping action of the heart, therefore, the circulatory blood remains in the carcass. See dark areas around the bones of your next chicken and check it out. This extra blood means extra weight at the counter if you think about it. I found out that the farmers were right. Until that encounter I thought animals were still slaughtered the way I remembered as a child. The carcass was drained of blood the same day it was slaughtered and the meat had a resting period before we ate it. The LORD tells us that the life of the flesh is in the blood, Lev 17:11.. and I see his prohibition on eating blood or animal flesh with the lifegiving or circulating blood in it as a way of teaching us to respect the animal's life even though God had given its flesh for human food. Acts 15:29, Gen. 9:3-4, Lev. 17:11-14. I cannot believe that a culture that can send a man to the moon cannot find a way to kill a cow/hog or whatever and empty the carcass of blood if we wanted to. I'm finding this to be something which grieves my spirit as I try to enjoy the meat God has given us to eat with one request of us. God also had one request of Adam and Eve in the Garden and I don't see that request as legalism. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I see it as a test of obedience. My spouse was a meat cutter and tells me what I see on or in or around the meat at the meat counter is mostly frank blood. My spouse is not in to biblical stuff, so is unbiased in observing what's happening, and I wonder why we don't see it and do something about it. I must confess here that I've discovered I am not Shadrach, Meshach, or Abednego. Daniel 1. Those guys could do nothing about their situation. We're in a totally different position in this country. Could it be that the reason our prayers for life to be valued again in this country are not answered because we are not valuing life at the bottom of the chain as evidenced by our unwillingness to honor God's Word in Genesis and Acts. Sorry, I have not heard of the PETA campaign. Thanks for answering honestly. It is good to hear and consider your responses. |
