NASB | Genesis 9:24 When Noah awoke from his wine, he knew what his youngest son had done to him. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 9:24 When Noah awoke from his wine [induced stupor], he knew what his younger son [Ham] had done to him. |
Bible Question: I was wondering what exactly is this verse saying. Did Ham do something to Noah besides "look" at him? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Eagle Eyes, I believe that Ham's sin in Genesis 9:24 is chiefly that he brought dishonor to his father by going out and telling others about his shameful drunkenness and nakedness, rather than doing something about it, like Shem and Japheth did. Shem and Japheth took great pains to honor their father, not wanting even to glance at his nakedness. Another such example in Scripture of where a father's son brought shame to his father is in Genesis 35:22, when Reuben slept with his father's concubine. Because of this sin, Reuben's birthright was taken from him (1 Chr. 5:1-3), and no important person came from his tribe (Judges 5:15-16). Moses even prayed for this tribe not to die out (Deut. 33:6). Blessings to you, Makarios |
