Subject: Gospel testimony preserved |
Bible Note: Note the continuation of the central theme of the Bible in God's command to take the extra clean animals on the ark. We see their purpose carried out in Gen 8:20 where the animals were offered as burnt offerings unto the LORD on an altar. These animals and their sacrifice pointed ahead to the once and for all sacrifice of our Savior on the cross. God, in His amazing grace, has maintained a visible and understandable testimony to the gospel throughout man's history. That testimony is the theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation: The blood of Jesus Christ God's son cleanses us from all sin. Some have referred to this theme as the thin red line running through the Bible. That theme begins when God slew animals to provide coverings for Adam and Eve as evidenced by Abel's acceptable offering. It continues through the clean animals sacrificed by Noah, through the offering of Isaac, the passover lamb in Egypt, the burnt offerings at the tabernacle and later the temple, until the sacrifice of the Lamb of God on the cross for our sins. Then in Revelation 5 we see the Lamb in the glory "as though it had been slain" and again in the last chapter reigning on the throne of God and the Lamb. What a theme! What a book! What a Savior! |
